The airline industry has been a forte of the well-established, well-resourced business over the past years. Just a few new startups are venturing into the space, unearthing the possibilities in air travel for customers. Airshop is one of such startups in the aviation industry.
The aim of Airshop is to make it easy to save money when you travel by air. Airshop is a platform which connect airline passengers and duty-free shops. Passengers can discover what’s available and order products that they will collect the day of their travel inside the shop or aboard their plane. Passengers and shops can also arrange special orders for things that are not readily available in the shops.
Unlike Airshop, competing options(traditional duty-free retail stores, tax refund systems) offer either choice or convenience in a mutually exclusive manner. Airshop offers both to the passenger, and enables virtually any choice(provided the shop accepts to fulfil the request) in the most convenient way possible (get your order delivered at your seat by the flight attendant).
DEMO Africa is the continent’s highest profile tech event which makes it the perfect event to show what the team has to offer. To the team, attending such an unparalleled gathering of investors, media, potential business partners just beats their imagination.
Being an African startup — and a Francophone one — is a challenge in itself when it comes to gaining exposure, and DEMO Africa was therefore an self evident choice.
So far, Airshop has received the Startup of the year award at the Digital Enterprise Days in April 2014 and this is an achievement which gives them the urge to press on and lift their idea to even greater heights. Just over the past weekend, Airshop also won the Seedstars Abidjan event and will be pitching in Geneva come February.
